Descriptive essay cooper
Cooper is as energetic as a toddler, actually he is a toddler. Only one and a half years old. He feels as soft as the sky and is quick as lightning. When he’s up he’s crazy, when he’s down he’s the biggest cuddle bug ever. His soft brown eyes fire up when I grab the ball, ready to launch it across the backyard. We obviously argue, he jumps I sternly tell him to stop, he pouts in response, rinse repeat. He has a bed, he has a couch to lay on, but he chooses to sit in the little spot of tile in front of the fireplace, barely fitting yet stubbornly re-positioning until he’s perfectly comfortable. One of my top five favorite things about my furry best friend is his trot, if I throw the ball across the yard, he’s off like a racehorse, on his way back he trots proudly with the ball hanging from his mouth. I could talk about Cooper all day and all night. I love him with all my heart. He’s the cuddliest brute I’ll ever play with. I don’t see him everyday, but I cherish my moments with Cooper James Gunther.
Indian removal act essay
On May 28th, 1830, former President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act. Many Native American tribes were affected by the Indian Removal Act, or more widely known, the Trail of Tears. The tribe I am focusing on is the Chickasaw tribe. Although this happened close to 200 years ago, the effects of the Trail of Tears still linger through all the tribes and their families. The Indians were forced from their land by the Americans, some tribes accepted their fate and went along with what they were told to do, others resisted the Americans and fought for their rights.
In 1832, the Chickasaw tribe of Indians, were forced to sell their land to the American soldiers, and taken to Indian land in Oklahoma. 3000 Chickasaw Indians were moved to Oklahoma, 500 tribe members died of dysentery or smallpox. So many Native American children were left orphaned after the Trail of Tears, their parents dead to disease, starvation or freezing. Along the way, tribe members were forced to sleep on the cold ground, some even dying of hypothermia. The effects of the Trail of Tears effects have been affecting every tribe who were affected by it even now.
Andrew Jackson was president of the United States for eight years, having two runs in office spanning from 1829 to 1837. Jackson’s aim was to become a direct representative for the common man, in some ways he succeeded in this task. Jackson's signature on the Indian removal act was the final nail in the coffin for the act to be set into action. Jackson negotiated with the american indians to steal their land peacefully, in exchange for their land, Jackson offered american lands west of the Mississippi River.
My Mother’s side of the family are descendants of the Chickasaw tribe who traveled the trail of tears from Mississippi to Oklahoma, in the attached image below I have my Great Great Grandfather and his mother highlighted on the Dawes Rolls. My Mom has had the experience of talking to my Great Great Uncle Jerry who passed down the history of our family and the effects of the Indian Removal Act on the tribe. He said that of course it was sad and a struggle for the whole tribe, but once they reached Oklahoma, my Great Great Great Grandmother fell into alcoholism and abandoned my Uncle and his brother on the reservation for a White Man.
Overall, quite a few tribes affected by the Indian Removal Act have yet to re-develop trust of the Americans. The Trail of Tears is very personal historical topic for me because a few of my family members traveled The Trail of Tears. Andrew Jackson played a huge role in the deaths of thousands of Native Americans. All-in-all the Indian Removal Act/Trail of Tears was a very painful time for a huge amount of Native Americans.
Roads in the Rainforest
In recent years the Brazilian Amazon Rain forest saw a surge in fires. Tens of thousands of fires burning millions of acres for nearly an entire year. And one of the causes of this was the construction of roads in the rain forest. Businesses were building roads in the rain forest to attract tourism and the tourists were destroying the ecosystem by littering and driving, releasing smog into the air. I think the building of roads and the destruction of the rain forests is horrible because the forests are our second best source of oxygen, first being the ocean.
One of the biggest problems with building roads in the rain forest is deforestation. The forests are an enormous need for oxygen production, but cutting them down releases more carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. There are a lot of animals in the forest who rely on the trees for food or shelter and the removal of the trees for streets takes that away from those animals is effectively killing them. The removal of trees in the forests can cause flooding. Deforestation is one of the worst and most common things happening to forests and their ecosystems.
Deforestation, road paving, facilities, and tourism are all sources of air and land pollution to the rain forests. Most of these activities require heavy machinery which releases smog into the air, which is not only causing the destruction of the plants and animals in the forest. Most of the land pollution in the forests come from trash from tourists and factories, littering and dumping trash. Some of these problems are causing fires to start in the forests, about 40000 fires were caused over the course of a year. These fires burned 2.24 million acres across the whole forest killing 2.3 million animals in just ten percent of its area. The slash-and-burn approach to deforestation is another cause of the fires. All these reasons together show causes to destruction of the rainforest and its ecosystem.
A majority of people say that the roads going through the rain forests are essential for businesses and the economy, and while this is partially true, the integrity and condition of the rainforests is more important. As I stated earlier, the forests on earth are the second most important source of oxygen second to the ocean. As I also said earlier, the fires being caused by deforestation and pollution is killing millions upon millions of plants and animals in the forests. Tourism will also bring land and air pollution in the ways of littering and driving. The counterclaim bringing up the economy can be shut down by facts and evidence.
My view on the destruction of the rain forests is that it is incredibly wrong and could've been easily avoided if people had just let the forest be. If businessmen didn't destroy the forests for their own personal gain, this wouldn't have happened. There could be 2.24 million acres of rain forest still standing and an ecosystem still thriving. Because of the pollution caused by the deforestation and construction in the rain forests, the whole world is affected because of the damage pollution and greenhouse gasses have on the ozone layer. All in all, the businesses and supporters of those businesses are doing wrong by the whole world by defending what they're doing to the planet.
