Bighorn sheep are dying at a rapid rate due to respiratory diseases. Bighorns are very unsocial creatures so when they do come into contact with creatures other than bighorns and sometimes other bighorns from different herds, they tend to have stress attacks that can cause breathing and heart problems and sometimes even death. The Bighorn above is one of the many sick bighorns from Utah's Antelope Island. The Bighorns are just getting worse because they stick together almost right next to each other every day and when one of them gets sick, in not too long the whole herd gets sick and most of them die. Pneumonia is one of the most prevalent diseases in bighorns and is very contagious. Pneumonia is a disease caused by an infection in the air sacs in the lungs of the bighorns that makes it very hard to breathe and is killing so many bighorns. The disease spreads when bighorns come into contact with each other or when they cough or sneeze and the airborne cells and particles come into contact with another bighorn the other bighorn could contract Pneumonia. Bighorn Sheep are going endangered at an alarming rate and if we don't try to help at all, soon they will be extinct from north America. There was around 1.5-2 million bighorns in North America in the beginning of the 19th century, now there is only about 70,000 left in North America. What we can do to help the bighorns. If you want to save the bighorns, there's a lot you can do to help. First, you can donate any amount of money you want to bighorn company of your choice and the money will go towards research and equipment for research. Donation money will also go towards vaccines for the bighorns so they can prevent baby bighorns from catching it. Another way to help out the bighorns is to find a bighorn center and do volunteer work, this can take a few responsibilities off of the workers.
